C4T Summary

Fragile Kindles
Bill Genereux

Mr. Genereux spoke about how he had purchased a Kindle and felt like it wasn't as indestructible as it needed to be.  He had called and told them of the problem.  He and his daughter had broken both of the Kindle's purchased.  The Kindle's were both replaced without problem.  He didn't really recommend buying one for a child or a "dropsy" adult.

Personally, I would not have thought a Kindle would be as fragile as Mr. Genereux described.  A lot of these are purchased for children.  His daughter had one also and they were both broken.  The thought of paying a good bit of money and it breaking, is just not for me.  I need something that will with stand a beating.

Seth Godin and Horace Mann
Bill Genereux

Seth Godin had wrote a book on education and the Industrial Revolution.  The name of the book is Stop Stealing Dreams.  In the book Mr. Genereux tells of Godin talking about how in school even now we teach children to follow the rules.  We as teachers need encourage individualism and creativity.  Godin also discusses Horace Mann who is the father of the Common School.  Then the need was for schools to produce the common worker.  As even now schools help to make a better society.

The need for a better society is somehow shouldered on our schools.  I think that Godin has a point but there are others factors as well.  I believe that parents need to be somewhat accountable for the children they raise.  I understand that schools also should have a major contribution on today's society.  The debate of how we educate our students is ongoing.  billgx.edublogs
