Blog Post Assignment 4

Langwitches-1st Graders Create Own Read Along Book
Ms. Tolisano

The class made a recorded version of the series Magic Tree.  Each student had a piece to read from the book.  The class was eager to listen to the podcast and follow along.  This made the class so involved in reading.  They use of technology made reading exciting.

As a teacher the need for using technology to help enhance anything in the classroom, would be an advantage.  I have heard of the teacher recording him or herself reading a book. This gets the class involved and they have made something themselves.  I would want to do this in my classroom to motivate better reading abilities.

Langwitches Listening-Comprehension Podcasting
Ms. Tolisano

Students must hear a vocabulary word more than seventy times.  The association with a feeling to a word helps the child remember and comprehend the word.  The class worked together in a Purim story to record in Hebrew.  The project was really not about the technology, but the use of another language.  Second language learners would benefit with a podcast like this to hear their native language and English.  Native English speaking children can also learn a second language.  This podcast gets the children working together, public speaking, and being creative.

This activity would be a great one in the classroom.  If you have a ESL student, they have the chance to listen to a English podcast.  Then the class can hear a podcast in another language.  The children can be creative in thinking about what languages they would want to hear in a podcast.

Flat Stanley
Ms. Tolisano

Flat Stanley is a paper boy who travels around and you take pictures of where he has been.  This is the usual project of Flat Stanley.  The class put a different spin on Flat Stanley by making a Geography project out of this.  The class decided where they would like Flat Stanley to go and researched it individually.  This gives the children a chance to be creative and use technology.  They made a podcast and told things about the city or country in which Stanley visited.

This type of teaching is a great way to keep the students interested.  They are being global learners, as well as digital storytellers.  I would even be interested where Flat Stanley had been.  Again, the class is being creative and learning through podcasting.

  1. Tina,

Great job on Blog Post #4! You followed Dr. Strange's directions and your grammar and spelling was correct! Next time, I would suggest adding links into your blog re-directing a reader to the posts or videos that your read or watched. I think Dr. Strange mentions adding links in our instruction manual.
Other than that, great job on your blog post! Cute picture as well. (:

  2. "The project was really not about the technology, but the use of another language. " When used correctly technology should always be a tool - not an objective. Good pont!

I second Taylor's comment. Including his admonition to add links!
